Part of the Vision of the team at i61 is to develop a Centre for Life Issues, as well located as possible. A place people could go to, not only to make friends but to build their confidence to share their hurts and hang ups. A place where we could either help them directly with their problem or at least direct them to experts who could. This place would have a Coffee Shop, but has to be located in a place it’s easy to get to. It doesn’t need to be in a high profile location but easily accessed by bus routes etc. The Coffee shop would become a hub where people can get to know one another in a relaxed atmosphere and develop trust before opening up and sharing what problems they have. Many people are sometimes just too embarrassed to share where they are at. Debt, unplanned pregnancy, drink, raising children, teens, the internet, abuse, eating disorders and so on and so on.
Let us share just a few of these issues
Mums first steps – no amount of preparation can give you all the skills you need to be a new mum. We want to offer practical hands on help and teach mums some of the basics they find themselves struggling with.
A Family Contact Centre which would include a kitchen-diner and a small lounge in which the parents of estranged families can meet in a supervised or unsupervised contact with their children. Family break-up is sadly a common part of modern society but this facility would offer a home from home environment in which family values, contact and relationships can be maintained even in the midst of difficult circumstances.
Life Skills: teaching both children and adults life skills, such as hygiene, nutrition, anger management, how to have good relationships, how to deal with past hurts, how to play, how to nurture, how to create.
Debt – first steps towards where to go and how to get the help to start that long journey out of debt and into financial security.
Drink - not just the problem of a few, but many people today are heading for health problems later in life due to the consistent over drinking of beer and wine at home – we can help educate and stem the tide towards alcoholism.
Food – so many families today live on convenience or junk food. We want to help families understand the physical, emotional, financial and relational benefits of growing, shopping, cooking and eating great food.
Facebook & Twitter – education for how to look after yourself online. Simple steps to protect your web pages and some healthy Do’s and Don’ts
Music, Dance and the Arts. We would have a small provision of recording & practice space as well as dance facilities, photography & video editing to help not only develop new skills but also confidence. These facilities would be available to local community projects, schools or individuals, as well as regular lessons offered.
Honestly, the possibilities are endless.
The i61 Life Centre would work in partnership with, and assist local agencies to be able to address many of these issues within the local community. It’s a vision for a Centre, where Life Issues and solutions are everyday occurrences. We have some of the funding in place and are actively looking for a place where we can start. This Vision is closer today than at any other time in i61′s short life.
Be a part of these incredible solutions and join us every Sunday at 11 AM at Ysgol John Bright
